Cafe Con Leche, a popular coffee shop with locations in Southwest and New Center, plans to open an art exhibit inside their West Grand Boulevard location on Saturday, May 30. The exhibit comes, in part, due to the popularity of the Detroit Institute of Arts' exhibit featuring Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera.
According to a release, Windows on Frida
will feature local artists' interpretation of Kahlo's life. Art will be revealed during an opening showcase on May 30 from 5-9 p.m. and will be available to view inside the cafe until July 11.
Art will include sculptures and jewelry, paintings, ceramic pieces, and "fashion designs." All art will be for sale.
Myrna Segura, co-founder of local collective Art & Fashion Metropolitan Detroit, is the mastermind behind the show. In a release she says: “Right now there is a buzz around the city and everyone wants to learn more about the art icon Frida Kahlo. We selected her because she is a very strong artist. She was vibrant, strong and resilient, a great example for Detroiters and all who face constant challenges in life.”
