How a children's toy will help get you that badass tattoo

We recently heard of an interesting promotion at a Hamtramck tattoo shop. It's called "Toys for Tats" at Harlequin Tattoo. Here's the deal: You bring in a toy worth $20, and you receive a $50 gift certificate toward a tattoo.

Shop staff tells us the concept was originally dreamed up in 2010 by Dawn Cooke at her other shop Depot Town Tattoo in Ypsilanti. "The purpose was to give back to the community by donating to kids in need and giving loyal customers a discount on a tattoo at the same time," they say. "The toys are donated to Methodist Children's home. But some toys have been donated in the past to Carrot Way community center in Ann arbor which is a housing development for families in need."

Using a children's toy to help look like a badass? The staff tells us, "We feel that helping children makes you a bad ass."

The promotion runs until Dec. 15, at Harlequin Tattoo, 11833 Joseph Campau, Hamtramck, ; 313-305-4243.
