We at Metro Times
have been fans of Davin Brainard for a long time. Like, we've written about him since the 1990s
. We've covered his Noise Camp
, his fingernail art series
, his poster art
, his children's book
, and so much more. We even did a slideshow
of the paintings he did, currently on display at the UFO Factory. It's called SHINY SHINY
, and it's chock-full of his style of pop art.
We bring it up because we hear Brainard will give a gallery talk this weekend. Actually, we hear it'll be more like a conversation between Brainard and Mary Harrison, an independent curator and former director of CPOP, and Ronald Cornelissen, a Dutch artist that Brainard has worked with for 18 years. A question-and-answer period will follow, allowing visitors to participate in an informal conversation with the artist. It takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at UFO Factory, 2110 Trumbull, Detroit; free and open to the public.
