According to the Knight Arts Challenge websit
e, about 900 projects were submitted to be a winner that would split the $1.87 million grant.

The best part of the 2017 winners is that their projects are just as diverse as the city of Detroit itself. Winning projects include "Art on the Block," a "10-day mural blitz" in Southwest to highlight the neighborhood's cultural identity, an Arab Film Festival presented by the Arab American National Museum, and a “blue-collar ballet for a blue-collar city,” awarded to jessica Care moore and Aku Kadogo, who will put on "a techno-inspired dance and theater production."
