Normally, kings are the patrons of classical composers. But this New Year’s Eve, with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the king is the composer himself — the King of Pop, that is. That’s right, it’s DSO’s 2018 New Year’s Eve Bash, where the orchestra, under the baton of Brent Havens, will delve into the repertoire of Michael Jackson, from his early years with the Jackson 5 to his mega-hit album Thriller and beyond. The vocals will be courtesy of performer James Delisco, whose athletic dance moves will take audiences back in time as the countdown to 2018 continues. Expect everything from Jackson 5-era hits to “Man in the Mirror” and more. Stay after midnight for the “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” afterparty. Presented in partnership with Detroit Public TV and DSO NextGen.

Starts at 10 p.m. at 3711 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-576-5111; dso.org; Tickets start at $50.
